Overview
GlazingPost.ca (“GlazingPost”, “we”, “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
Information We Collect
Newsletter Subscriptions
When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and the date you subscribed, and nothing else. We use it for one purpose: to send you the weekly industry digest. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone for their own use.
Your address is sent from your browser straight to our database, which is hosted by Supabase, and is stored there. Supabase holds it on our behalf and does not use it for anything of its own. The request passes through Cloudflare, which sits in front of that database and sets a short-lived cookie on its own domain to tell automated traffic from real people.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use our site. It collects aggregated data including page views, session duration, and approximate geographic location, with IP anonymisation enabled. We do not collect personally identifiable information through analytics.
The “preferred source” Button on Articles
Every article page carries a button that lets you make GlazingPost a preferred source in your own Google results. Drawing that button means your browser loads a script from news.google.com and displays a small frame served by Google inside the page. Google therefore receives your IP address, your browser details and the address of the article you are reading, whether or not you click anything, and if you are signed in to Google it can connect that to your account. This happens on article pages only. We receive nothing from it: the frame belongs to Google and we cannot see inside it.
The Company Directory
The directory lists Canadian glazing companies with their business details: company name, city, province, the services they offer and, where we have it, a phone number and a website. It was compiled from public business directories rather than from submissions, so a company can appear here without having asked to. We hold no personal contact details for anyone at these companies.
If you are connected to a listed company and something is wrong, or you want the listing taken down, write to listings@glazingpost.ca naming the company. We will correct it or remove it. We do not charge for a listing, we do not charge to remove one, and removal has no effect on whether the company is written about.
Cookies
GlazingPost uses functional cookies necessary for site operation and analytics cookies set by Google Analytics. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Why We Collect Each of These
- Your email address: to send you the weekly digest you asked for, and for nothing else. We do not use it to profile you and we do not add it to anything else.
- Analytics: to see which articles are read and which are not, so we can decide what to cover. It is not used to identify you or to target advertising, because we run none.
- Server logs: to keep the site running and to investigate faults and abuse.
- Company directory entries: to publish a public record of Canadian glazing companies. These are business details, not personal ones.
- Legal obligations: to comply with the law where we are required to.
Data Retention
We keep your email address until you ask us to remove it. There is no automatic deletion and no fixed expiry date, so nothing goes unless you ask.
GlazingPost has no mailing system in place yet. Nothing has been sent to this list, and until something is, no message from us will carry an unsubscribe link. Asking us directly is the only way off the list today: editor@glazingpost.ca.
Web server logs, which record the usual request details, are kept for as long as Google Cloud retains them under its own defaults. We do not set a shorter period and we do not read them routinely.
Your Rights
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your information
- Withdraw consent at any time
In practice the only personal information we hold about a reader is an email address on the newsletter list, so a request for a copy of it, a correction to it, or its deletion is a short exchange. Write to editor@glazingpost.ca from the address in question and say which of those you want. We aim to answer within 30 days, which is the period PIPEDA sets.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Third-Party Services
These are every outside party your visit can reach, and what each one gets. Each is governed by its own privacy policy.
- Google Cloud hosts the site. It handles every request and keeps the ordinary web server logs.
- Supabase stores the articles, the directory and the newsletter list. GlazingPost has no user accounts and no login, so Supabase never sees a password or an identity from you. It receives your email address only if you subscribe.
- Cloudflare sits in front of the Supabase database. It sees the newsletter request when you submit the form and sets a short-lived cookie on its own domain to filter automated traffic.
- Google Analytics 4 measures site usage on every page, as described above.
- Google News serves the preferred-source button on article pages, as described above.
We do not use any advertising network, any advertising or retargeting pixel, or any social media tracking script. The share buttons on articles are ordinary links: nothing is sent to X or LinkedIn unless you click one. The site's typefaces are served from our own servers, not from Google Fonts, and article images are served through this domain rather than loaded from elsewhere.
Where Your Information Is Stored
Your information is stored and processed outside Canada. The site runs on Google Cloud in the us-east1 region, in the United States, and article images are stored in the same region. The database and the services above are operated by companies based in the United States.
Information held outside Canada is subject to the laws of the country it sits in, which can include lawful access by the authorities there. If you would rather your email address were not stored on that basis, do not subscribe, and write to us if you already have.
